Part One: Does God Know It All?

In relation to Divine knowledge. God is completely beyond our abilities of comparison and conception, and so we can acquire only some knowledge of His attributes and names, not of His Divine essence, by meditating on and studying His acts and creatures.

 

To understand His acts, sometimes we have to resort to comparisons, as allowed in the Quran where God says what means,

 

[God's is the highest comparison] (Ar-Rum 30:27)

Angels in Islam: Creatures of Light

Belief in the existence of angels is one of the fundamental articles of faith in Islam. Muslims believe that angels were created by God from light. Angels carry out God’s commandments in nature and the universe. What we usually call the “forces of nature” become active because of the presence of angels behind them, working at the command of God.

Pondering on the Signs of God

In the Qur’an, it is stated that the unbeliever is one who neither recognizes nor appreciates the signs of God. The distinguishing mark of a believer is his ability to see those signs and proofs. He knows that these are not created in vain, and can realize the power and great art of God everywhere and find ways to revere Him. He is one of those men of sense, who ( celebrate the praises of God, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (and say): ‘Our Lord! not for naught have You created (all) this! Glory be to You! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire.’)(Surat Aal `Imran 3:191)**

The Job of Angels

Muslims believe that angels are created from light. The Arabic word for angel is malak. According to its root form, "malak" means messenger, deputy, envoy, superintendent, and a powerful person. The root meaning also implies descent from a high place.

According to Islam, angels build relations between the macrocosmic world and the material one, convey God's commands of, direct the acts and lives of beings (with God's permission), and represent their worship in their own realms.

Allah Both Transcendent and Immanent

Of central importance to the Islamic creed is a firm belief in Allah (God) 1 that accords with the precepts set in the Qur’an and Sunnah. While the majority of humanity believes in an absolute, the Islamic definition of God is precise and unique, and not subject to personal revisions. In other words, Allah is as He is, and our belief in His reality benefits no one but ourselves.
